Leveling 1–60

Hunter

What changed in Forever

Leveling 1–60

The leveling route uses Beast Mastery: the pet holds the enemy while the hunter deals ranged damage, supplemented by summoned hawks from level 25. Early talents reduce travel time and increase sustained pet damage. Bestial Wrath becomes available at 40; points after 42 are allocated to Marksmanship. The final distribution is 33/18/0. No talent reset is required during leveling.

1–9: ranged weapons and distance

Talents at level 10

Ranged weapon upgrades are selected primarily for damage. From level 4, Serpent Sting is appropriate for targets expected to survive its duration; Arcane Shot becomes available at 6. When an enemy closes the distance, Raptor Strike supports a melee finish, while Concussive Shot permits withdrawal and restoration of ranged distance. Ammunition reserves must match the equipped weapon.

10–19: the pet and initial talents

Talents at level 10

At 10, your race’s taming chain unlocks Tame Beast, Call Pet, Feed Pet and Beast Training. Family selection and training are described in the pet section. The pet initiates combat to establish threat before ranged attacks. Mend Pet becomes available at 12; its ranks are updated alongside the main shots.

Deadly Aspects 5/5 at 10–14 increases Auto Shot speed under Aspect of the Hawk. The subsequent allocation is Focused Fire 2/2 at 15–16 and Endurance Training 3/5 at 17–19. These ten points unlock the third row; additional health and armor improve pet durability across consecutive encounters.

20–24: travel speed between quests

Talents at level 20

Aspect of the Cheetah and Aimed Shot become available at 20. Pathfinding 2/2 at 20–21 raises the movement bonus to 36%; the October 30 tree update placed this talent in the third row. Bestial Swiftness at 22 increases pet movement speed by 30%; levels 23–24 provide the first two Unleashed Fury points. Cancelling Aspect of the Cheetah before incoming damage avoids the associated daze and resulting delay during withdrawal.

Auto Shot requires half a second without movement. Automatic shots continue during Aimed Shot. Aimed Shot and Multi-Shot share a cooldown: the former is used against one target, the latter against several after the pet or tank establishes threat. Traps permit restoration of ranged distance; Freezing Trap becomes available at 20 and Frost Trap at 28.

25–42: hawks and pet damage

Talents at level 25

Summon Hawk is selected at 25. Each hawk attacks for 18 seconds, with two active simultaneously. Early summoning and renewal after expiration support damage in extended encounters. Summon Hawk and Arcane Shot share a six-second cooldown, so the shot delays the next summon. Unleashed Fury 5/5 is completed at 26–28 and Ferocity 5/5 at 29–33; their damage and critical-strike bonuses apply to the pet and hawks.

Intimidation at 34 provides a three-second stun. Bestial Discipline 2/2 at 35–36 increases pet Focus regeneration and preserves 50% of mana regeneration while abilities are used. The subsequent allocation is Frenzy 3/5 at 37–39, Bestial Wrath at 40, and completion of Frenzy 5/5 at 41–42. Each pet critical strike then guarantees 30% additional attack speed for eight seconds; after an interruption, the next critical strike restores the effect. Bestial Wrath increases pet damage by 50% for 18 seconds and is therefore most useful against targets with substantial health or in extended encounters.

Feign Death becomes available at 30 and supports threat reduction. In dungeons, pet movement should avoid additional enemy groups, and pet taunt is disabled when a tank controls the encounter. During solo play, powerful opening shots follow the establishment of pet threat. Automatic attacks and pet damage can complete an encounter when mana is insufficient for further abilities.

43–60: critical strikes, intellect and shots

Talents at level 43

Lethal Attacks 5/5 is selected at 43–47. Careful Aim at 48–52 converts Intellect into Attack Power at 20% per point. Intellect on equipment therefore contributes both mana and damage. Ranged weapon damage remains the main weapon criterion; Agility, Attack Power and critical-strike chance are valuable in other slots.

Rapid Killing 2/2 at 53–54 increases the next shot’s damage by 20% after an eligible kill; the effect must be consumed within 20 seconds. When the ordinary Serpent Sting remains on a dying target, a pet finishing blow also activates the bonus. Rapid Fire’s cooldown is reduced by two minutes. Efficiency 3/5 at 55–57 reduces mana costs by 9%.

Trueshot Aura is selected at 58, together with the available trainer rank: +40 ranged Attack Power, increasing to +50 at 60. The aura improves the hunter’s ranged damage and applies to the group. The final two points, at 59–60, are allocated to Mortal Shots 2/5.

The separate Marksmanship distribution supports ranged combat with Lone Wolf and Sniper Shot. Survival uses two one-handed weapons, Strider Kick and Mongoose Bite, with Lacerating Strikes improving the latter. Both distributions require an inactive pet for Lone Wolf. Transitioning to Survival therefore requires prior preparation of weapons and melee equipment from the pre-raid section.

During leveling, each dungeon is visited once for quest experience when a group is ready and the entrance lies along the route. Suitable drops are retained for use. Repeat visits are reserved for pre-raid equipment; new dungeons may also be included for exploration.

A pet for levels 10–30

Talents at level 10

After the taming chain, an ordinary cat near the current quest route is suitable for this talent distribution. Its damage benefits from the pet talents; a rare spawn is unnecessary. The beast’s level cannot exceed the hunter’s level.

Durotar has Durotar Tiger at 7–8; Mulgore has Flatland Cougar at 7–8. Savannah Huntress at 11–12 is a later option in The Barrens.Dun Morogh has Snow Leopard at 7–8; Teldrassil has Nightsaber Stalker at 7–8. Humans can start with a local boar; Skyborne have Prideclaw at 5–6 on Zephras Isle. Most early taming locations were checked against Classic; Prideclaw was checked against Forever. Training and ability ranks are covered in the pet section.

Conditions that reduce combat efficiency

Arcane Shot immediately before Summon Hawk delays the summon through their shared cooldown. Incoming attacks under Aspect of the Cheetah may cause a daze. Pet initiation, sufficient ammunition and maintained pet happiness reduce the risk of an extended encounter.

Gear

Levels 10 and 50–60: some items have only been checked against Classic. Each card lists the stat version and source. Sources and data limitations

Dungeons

The leveling route includes one visit to each dungeon located along the route. Quest experience is the primary objective; equipment drops are a secondary benefit. Repeat visits are reserved for pre-raid equipment collection at level 60. Experience totals exclude kills and bonuses. Full-chain totals include prerequisite and follow-up quests, which may require an additional visit. The percentage of a level uses the experience requirement at the listed starting level.

XP and sources

Both totals use quests available at the start of the recommended level range. The first includes direct quests without extra chains. The second includes the entire known list, including preparation and follow-ups; it is a reference total, not a promise of XP from one run. If there are no chains, the totals match. Quests spanning multiple wings award XP once.

Kills and bonuses are excluded. Classic rewards are reference values; unknown XP is excluded from totals. Quest-name links lead to Wowhead or ForeverChanges. Pick up yourself means we do not rely on sharing, including when sharing is unconfirmed. Checked 31.10.2026.

Pet

A cat is suitable for the main talent distribution because its damage benefits from Beast Mastery talents. Taming an ordinary cat along the route avoids time spent waiting for a rare spawn. The beast’s level cannot exceed the hunter’s level.

Horde

Durotar: Durotar Tiger, 7–8. Mulgore: Flatland Cougar, 7–8. Later, Savannah Huntress, 11–12, fits a route through The Barrens.

These ordinary beasts’ locations and levels use Classic data. The target’s actual level requires confirmation before taming.

Alliance

Teldrassil: Nightsaber Stalker, 7–8. Dun Morogh: Snow Leopard, 7–8. Humans can start with a local boar, then switch when a cat appears along their route.

Skyborne can find Prideclaw, 5–6, on Zephras Isle; a trip to another starting zone is unnecessary.

Abilities and training

Higher Growl ranks from the pet trainer improve threat control during solo play. Autocast is disabled in dungeons when a player is tanking. Current Bite and Claw ranks are used for the cat; suitable beasts provide Dash training after level 30.

New attack ranks are learned by temporarily taming a beast that knows them. The main pet remains in the stable during this process. The ability is used until the learning message appears; the main pet is then retrieved and taught through Beast Training. Training depends on the pet’s level, loyalty and available training points.

Early Claw 2 sources include Encrusted Surf Crawler, 9–10, in Durotar and Young Forest Bear, 8–9, in Elwynn Forest. Stranglethorn Tiger, 32–33, in Stranglethorn Vale can teach Dash 1. The beast’s level cannot exceed the hunter’s level.

Cats eat meat and fish. Feeding after taming and maintaining happiness prevent the associated damage reduction. Separate Attack and Follow bindings provide independent control of initiation and recall; examples are provided in the macros section.
